Wanda & Ed Eichler -- August 17, 1968 |
Ah yes! Forty-three years together! Here we are in our formal wedding portrait (remember studio photographers?) taken at Michael Conte's studio in Ripon, Wisconsin. I was twenty. Ed was twenty-one. Yes, I made my wedding dress. The fabric was purchased in New Glaurus, Wisconsin. The dress is still hanging in my closet.
I lifeguarded that summer at Camp Lucerne near Neshkoro, Wisconsin and that's where our wedding was held -- in the Chapel overlooking Lake Lucerne. I remember that Mr. Conte had to use several shades of makeup to shade out my very tanned nose. The photo sitting was done several days before our wedding and I'm so glad that we spent the money (which seemed like a lot at the time) for this portrait.
Happy Day!!! Thanks for posting this beautiful picture!
ReplyDeleteLove the frou frou veil! Happy union!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! Ed and Wanda you are truly an inspiration for all of us who are just beginning in our marriage journeys. Here's to many more years of wedded bliss! - Linda Conradi
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Wanda & Ed. It seems like a "blink of an eye" doesn't it, when thinking about the passing of all these years ...
ReplyDeleteGodspeed,
Mark & Sally Rummel
Congrats! But...now I want to see more wedding pics!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI remember this day! I remember much of the summer. I remember spending a night with you, Wanda, at Camp Lucerne in the lifeguard cabin. You crawled up onto the rafters. I remember laughing and laughing and thinking you were so daring!
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing people laughing and splashing in the lake during your wedding. I remember doing a little dance afterwards and Pauline asking me what I was doing (then I remember being embarrassed!). I remember you had melon balls as part of the fruit salad for the reception. I thought those were so cool.
I also remember shopping for the fabric for your wedding dress. You took forever, or so it seemed to my 8-year-old brain. I sat on the floor of the fabric store and cried. But then we bought fabulous strawberry tarts and all was well.
Congratulations!
I can't believe how much you and Liesl look alike. Congrats. Jenny Parker
ReplyDeleteEd and I are warmed by the lovely memories. Just thinking about my sis Heidi "crying at the fabric store" is way too much!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments! We've enjoyed each and every one.
Wanda
Congratulations! My husband, Jim and I were also married 43 years ago on August 17, 1968!
ReplyDeleteAh, the serendipity of the internet! Your comment reminds us that we knew of four other couples married on August 17th that year. We came back from our northern Michigan honeymoon and watched the demonstrating outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on TV. We knew people in the National Guard and in the demonstration ranks.
ReplyDelete1968 was quite a year. Two assasinations -- MLK and Bobby Kennedy. Riots. And weddings!
Thank you for your comment. Happy anniversary and may there be many more to come! Wanda
